But that&#8217;s simply not true. We can obtain essential nutrients from a<a href=\"https:\/\/familydoctor.org\/vegan-diet-how-to-get-the-nutrients-you-need\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> wide variety<\/a> of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More importantly, going vegetarian has been found to make one less susceptible to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancercouncil.com.au\/1in3cancers\/lifestyle-choices-and-cancer\/red-meat-processed-meat-and-cancer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> serious health concerns<\/a> like hypertension, diabetes, stomach and bowel cancer and heart disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then, of course, there are the positive benefits plant-based foods have on<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcrm.org\/health-topics\/weight-loss\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> weight management<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Meat consumption is bad for the environment<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When we declared all QNET offices and events meat-free in 1998, plant-based eating was seen by many in the supposed &#8220;developed world&#8221; as a fad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s not the case anymore, though. In fact, science has confirmed that livestock farming and industrial meat production<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/future-perfect\/23778399\/media-ignores-climate-change-beef-meat-dairy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> pollute the environment<\/a> and contribute significantly to deforestation, habitat loss and the extinction of certain plant and animal species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has also<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspca.org\/news\/feeling-heat-factory-farming-and-climate-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> made our world warmer<\/a>, no thanks to copious amounts of methane and nitrous oxide being produced. Some reports reveal that, in stark contrast to what the global meat-production industry would have us believe, these poor creatures are cruelly reared and transported before being killed for the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Granted, we still don&#8217;t know if animals experience emotions the way humans do. But research confirms that all creatures,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/green\/2023\/06\/25\/fish-have-feelings-too-why-animal-sentience-means-we-should-rethink-food\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> fish included<\/a>, can feel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/animals\/article\/animals-science-medical-pain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">discomfort, pain and physical suffering<\/a>. And that&#8217;s been enough for scores of animal lovers to say, &#8220;Enough is enough!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Plant-based food is affordable and cost-effective<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s true that certain processed plant-based products can be pricey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But fresh fruits and vegetables, which are healthier than processed food, are more affordable and generally cost less than fish, poultry, dairy and meat.
